Before leaving for Japan I was hoping to finish a Mother's Day card and a birthday card for a long time friend. However, as is often the case when preparing for a trip, they didn't get done. That meant that returning home and only partially unpacked, I had to decide which card to create. The birthday card won out as it needs to be put into the mail by tomorrow and my Mother's Day card was just in honor of all mothers. In Japan I found some interesting textured printed paper which I used for the background, flowers, and paper pieced kimono.
The structure of this card came from a card a friend sent me. (See fan card.) Unfolded it was longer than 12" so I altered my card to a 12" x 6" wide piece with folds at 2",4", and 8". The large flowers were stamped on the pink paper using a Bo Bunny stamp using white ink and heat set embossing powder. After cutting out the flowers they were distressed with pink ink. The leaf (from a Hero Arts Cling leaf set) was stamped on white card stock and stamped with words from a Hero Arts set. The girl with the cupcake is a Sister Stamp and is available at Ben Franklin Crafts.
I bought extra crinkled paper (see bottom photo) and would like to share some with the first Ben Franklin Craft Club member to send in a comment. If you are the speedy Craft Club member winner, I will contact you and you will need to send me (via email) your mailing address. Thank you for visiting this blog site. In future posts I will show you some projects made at the Japan Hobby and Craft Show.....oh,and perhaps there will be more free give-a-ways!

Pretty card Lynn! Love the colors of the card and the details in the paper. Your friend will love this card! Happy Mother's Day to you!!!
Wow looks like you went on a shopping spree... Awesome cards and great showcasing on both of them.. I'm sure the recipients will treasure each card made especially by you..
Happy Mom's Day to you too!
Those papers are stunning! Beautiful cards...both of them.
Oh Lynn, lovelovelove--the papers, your flowers and the fan! Both cards so beautiful, thanks for the inspiration!
Very pretty Asian themed cards, Lynn! Can't decide which I like better, but am curious to learn more about the fan on the fan card. Is that an embellishment you picked up on your Japan shopping spree, or one you created? Either way, it is beautiful! The pretty muted washi looks fabulous...sigh, wish I had more time to shop while we were in Japan!
That fan card is surely beautiful and a great inspiration. But the card you made with the crinkled origami paper and flowers is lovely. I have some of this type of paper but never knew what or how to use it and here you have "enabled" me with your flower card! Happy belated Mother's Day to you.
